WE 157 class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays this Winter. Every Thursday, the preschool comes over to the Ford Fieldhouse for the WE 157 students to teach to. The WE 157 students prepare and teach gross motor lesson plans to the preschool children.
This hands on experience/learning is important to students because they get to experience first hand, real life situations with children. “They walk away from this class with something very valuable to them, and that is teaching experience,” Jodi Gee, instructor of the course said.
WE 157 helps prepare for their career path by: Giving them experience and service learning on their resumes, but also prepares them for the field by allowing them to dive right into teaching to the children.
The GRCC lab preschool does not have much space for gross motor movement or any type of gym space where they are currently located. So, this collaboration allows the children a “gym time,” where they can some to the FFH, run, get their wiggles out, get their energy out, and sharpen their gross motor movements through the lesson plans they are taught by WE 157 students.
